Another vintage beauty! This stunning rare and classic large brooch is fashioned in a three-dimensional design, is one that cannot be ignored. The brooch features a lovely ivy leaf embellished with sparkling marcasite that simply dazzles the eye with its radiant beauty. Unfortunately, you cannot see this in the photo. The brilliant stones reflect highlights that dance in the light. This beauty measures 2 1/2" in length and 2" wide. The brooch is a signed rhodium plate on the back. This sparkling brooch is an exquisite example of vintage jewellery quality and workmanship. So don't hesitate. The brooch is in excellent vintage condition.

In Victorian Era
Ivy has a symbolic role in the painting The Long Engagement by Arthur Hughes, where it depicted the plant has grown over the lady’s name, Amy, which was carved into the tree long ago. This goes back to ivy’s association with age, symbolizing the passing of time.

In Magic and Superstitions
Some cultures believe in the magical powers of healing and protection of ivy. The Hedera helix is thought to guard the area against negative energies and disasters, and some are used to carry the plant to attract luck. We do not normally clean many of our vintage items as most antique jewellery collectors and enthusiasts prefer that they are kept with the integrity of the piece and patina that occurs naturally over time. This particular piece was gently cleaned with a soft cloth. No harsh chemicals were used to clean this piece.
